Uba Sani, Special Adviser (Political) to Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i has been screened out by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2019 election. Uba Sani had been touted by el-Rufa’i to replace Shehu Sani for Kaduna Central Senatorial seat.
Shehu Sani was handed the ‘sole ticket’ to contest the 2019 senatorial election at the Party’s State Secretariat on Tuesday evening.
But in protest, some angry APC members who are supporting the candidacy of Uba Sani have thronged the State Secretariat of the Party and warned President Muhammadu Buhari that they would not vote for him in 2019, if he fails to intervene and end impunity being perpetrated by the National Chairman of the Party, Adams Oshiomhole.
Spokesman for the protesters, Saidu Idris Dibis, an aspirant for the Kaduna State Assembly, Kawo Constituency, said that the decision taken to illegally disqualify other candidates to pave way for Senator Shehu Sani was unjust and would not be tolerated.
He said that President Buhari should intervene and make the National Working Committee of the party and its national chairman rescind the decision.
Meanwhile, another group which called itself the Kaduna Patriotic Front commended the decision of the party.
The president of the group, Muhammad Ishaq, said the step taken by the party to reward loyal members would strengthen the party, and congratulated Senator Sani for the ticket.
“We call on party faithful to remain steadfast and stand by the decision of Adams Oshiomhole,” he said.
However, Shehu Sani has described the protests as the handiwork of frustrated politicians.
He expressed this in a statement signed by his SA Media, Abdulsamad Chima Amadi, made available on Tuesday night.
Part of the statement reads:
“The desperation by some candidates in zone two, who want to be senator by hook or crook have propelled them to hire thugs and send them to the streets.
“It is rather unfortunate that some desperate politician who have been well known for the use of thugs have returned to their trade in stock. They sit in the comfort of their homes and send drug induced youths to the streets to do their dirty jobs for them.
“This is a total and disgraceful act that is aimed at tarnishing the image of our President Muhammadu Buhari and amiable party Chairman Com. Adams Oshiomhole.
“Just like Sen Shehu Sani in zone 2, Suleiman Abdul Kwari was also the sole candidate in his zone.
“We call on all party faithfuls to stand up against these agents of destruction with PDP blood flowing in them.
“Senator Shehu Sani and his followers are law abiding and party faithfuls who will always support our President and the National leadership of our great party.
“Consequently, we call on the law enforcement agencies to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act and punish them accordingly.
“We wish to congratulate all aspirants that were successful in the screening and wish them well.”
